North Wrangells Adventure

The North Wrangells Trek is a a personal favorite for the specific feeling the sweeping landscape leaves you. Just to the north of the White River we will be a stones throw from Canada and the unfathomable expanse of the Yukon Territory. As opposed to the deep valleys and tight canyons of some of our glaciated treks, the North Wrangells leaves you with the impression of an endless, unexplored frontier, that begs you to hike over the next mountain, and the next, in search of something undefinable.

*transportation to McCarthy and hotel accommodations included on request

Day 2: We will board a bush plane in McCarthy and take off for 45 minutes of flight time. Our commute will take past the mile high cliffs, high over remnants of mining activity, bridges to nowhere, braided rivers, and miles of ice. As the landscape begins to stretch into infinity we will touch down on the tundra and take in our new environment.
*all meals included

Day 3-8: We will scan the expansive landscape for caribou, grizzly bears, eagles, Dall Sheep, and black bears. We will contour hills covered in wildflowers, cross freezing muddy streams, dip and weave through the landscape and camp under the Midnight Sun. We will gain ridge lines and take in views of the Nutzotin Mountains and the University Range.

Day 9: We will break camp and walk south, towards the mighty White River. After crossing our last creek we will sit in the company of alpine lupin and the highest peaks in the Wrangells as we wait for our ride back to the muddy town of McCarthy. All too soon the drone of the airplane engine will compete with the rushing river and we will fly back to McCarthy for a celebratory dinner.
*breakfast, lunch, and hotel accommodations included

Day 10: You will bid farewell to McCarthy and head back to Anchorage.
*transportation to Anchorage included on request

*As with all BA trips we strive to stick to our itinerary as best as possible but ask our clients to remain open to the possibility of change. The state is large, the weather is unpredictable, and the regions we endeavor to reach are remote. With that in mind please read the above itinerary as a rough outline of what to expect but be prepared for the unknown. More on this under Bush Flying 101.
