Overview

This striking ridgeline affords views of Denali throughout the trip (weather depending, of course). Tracing the spine of the Talkeetna Mountains the Kesugi Ridge takes us through lush green forests to high the high alpine with endless views. This trip is ideal for novice backpackers, those on a time constraint, and anyone that enjoys the benefits of a trail. And, if we’re lucky, we may just get some wildlife viewing opportunities for moose, bear, caribou and beaver.

What to Expect

Day 0: Your guide will meet with you before departure to double check your gear, go over the itinerary, and answer any lingering questions you may have regarding the trip.

Day 1: You guide will meet you in the morning and we will make the 2 hour+ trip up the Parks Highway to the trailhead. Without wasting a moment we will walk into the woods and immediately work our way upwards. After a significant elevation gain we will pop out of the trees and into the alpine. Weather permitting we will glimpse a view of The Great One and will keep her to our west for the remainder of the day. We will make camp near some emerald mountain lakes and enjoy dinner in the wild.

Day 2-4: We will walk over boulders, scramble up scree slopes, rock hop over streams, stroll through soft tundra, and swim in alpine lakes. Your guide will cook you dinner under the endless dusk of the Midnight Sun.

Day 5: We make our way off the ridge, out of the alpine, into the forrest, and down to the lakes at the trailhead. From here we will be picked up and whisked back to Anchorage to celebrate our trip.

*As with all BA trips we strive to stick to our itinerary as best as possible but ask our clients to remain open to the possibility of change. The state is large, the weather is unpredictable, and the regions we endeavor to reach are remote. With that in mind please read the above itinerary as a rough outline of what to expect but be prepared for the unknown. More on this under Bush Flying 101.
